Sessel von Emilia Sala und Giorgio Madini, 1950er

This organically curved armchair is from the 1950s, and is upholstered in Alessandro Bini´s Tuscan woven Flou gold velvet. The chair was restored, stripped down to the wooden frame, and the padding and belts were replaced. There is some stitching is on the back, which is used when restoring mid-century pieces: the back stitching is sewed on the chair from the reverse of the fabric, this way the line of nail heads is avoided and the stretching of the fabric is consistent. This type of wingback armchair is commonly attributed to Paolo Buffa, probably because of the similarity with the Bristol Hotel armchair armrest, others are attributing it to Melchiorre Bega. In ´La rivista dell´arredamento´ (n. 90, page 20) 1962, Gorlich Editore Milano certifies the designers as Emilia Sala and Giorgio Madini, designers who worked for Borsani and Cassina.
